Sales and Marketing Intern
What were your duties?
I aided in the execution of a variety of high profile events for the magazine, as well as, worked with the sales team on client and brand integration. In addition to this, I helped to construct client proposals and event recaps for some of the most notable brands in the industry.
What did you most enjoy about your internship?
I enjoyed the variety of experiences I was able to attain from this internship. I was able to learn a lot about the media industry, as well as, get a first hand experience of how high profile events were executed. I was also able to network with a variety of media heads in Chicago, which is extremely beneficial to a future career in the industry.
What was the most difficult aspect of the internship?
I would say the most difficult aspect of the internship was leaving. That sounds cliche but it is true. I learned so much from my experience at Michigan Avenue and genuinely loved going to work for them everyday, which made it hard for me leave.
How did your experience at ILLINOIS and in the College of Media prepare you for your internship?
My experience in the College of Media, through my previous advertising classes was abel to prepare me with the basis of what I wanted to learn in my internship. I was able to use the information from my courses to narrow down the skills I wanted to expand upon in my internship.
How has your internship prepared you for a career?
It has given me the basics of skill set to begin a career in the marketing, advertising, and public relations fields. I learned how to properly execute events that promoted various brands and clients of the magazine, which is beneficial to a career in public relations and marketing. I was also able to learn about the advertising of the magazine and see how print advertisements are made up and chosen, which is beneficial to a career in advertising.
What recommendations do you have for other students about doing an internship?
Take full advantage of any experience that is offered to you at your internship. You never know who you are going to have the chance of meeting or what valuable skills you are going to learn. Soak it all in!
