What did you most enjoy about your internship?
I absolutely loved being able to meet and work with United States' Senators on a daily basis and get to know them more beyond their politics. Everyday was something new and my directors had a lot of faith in me to give me important tasks that would improve national campaigns.
What was the most difficult aspect of the internship?
I had to teach myself how to use Photoshop and other Adobe applications. I spent hours on YouTube after work trying to perfect my skills.
How did your experience at ILLINOIS and in the College of Media prepare you for your internship?
The College of Media, and Illinois in general, offers a lot of freedom to work with your major and minor. Due to this, I was able to integrate both advertising and political science to work toward my dream of being a press secretary. Having the opportunity to combine two passions is one I'll never take for granted.
How has your internship prepared you for a career?
I was able to learn from some of the most experienced digital directors in Washington D.C. who made me realize I am in the field I want to be in. Having this confidence going into a career is amazing.
What recommendations do you have for other students about doing an internship?
Put yourself out there, you never know who you might meet who has connections into the industry you want to be in.
