What were your duties?
-Transcribe celebrity interviews for staff writers and editors
-Research and fact-check stories and data for future issues
-Assist editors with different tasks around the office, such as mailings, organization and other various editorial tasks
What did you most enjoy about your internship?
Working at Elle gave me the opportunity to learn about the process of print magazine production in a hands-on way. I was able to help organize the layout for a future issue, and I loved being able to see all the work and creativity that goes into a magazine I have read for years.
What was the most difficult aspect of the internship?
At a professional publication like Elle, each assignment has a strict deadline and I think learning to adhere to these deadlines was one of the most difficult, but most helpful aspects I learned at my internship.
How did your experience at ILLINOIS and in the College of Media prepare you for your internship?
My experience at the College of Media helped me through a variety of ways, including the classes I have taken and the work ethic I learned from them.
How has your internship prepared you for a career?
My internship at Elle helped prepare me for my career in countless ways, but primarily, it reconfirmed my passion for the publishing industry and helped me learn the skills needed for a future career at a company like this.
What recommendations do you have for other students about doing an internship?
Do your best work every day, even in the smallest and most tedious tasks. Your editors will notice, and it will pay off in so many ways.
