Internship Title
Worldwide Advertising Intern
What were your duties?
Each day at IBM was a whirlwind: I participated in daily strategy, creative review and production meetings for 20+ ongoing advertising projects, including commercials for the U.S. Open, designed a digital user experience of a website for IBM’s Global Advertising Community, analyzed uses of Virtual Reality and 360 degree videos in product development and advertising, and reported to the Director of Advertising on a daily basis.
What did you most enjoy about your internship?
There were two things that I enjoyed most about my internship. I gained insight into how both the client side (IBM) and agency side (Ogilvy & Mather) of advertising operates. I also enjoyed seeing work come to life -- on TV, online and even in the Wall Street Journal!
What was the most difficult aspect of the internship?
There's a definite learning curve when working at IBM. Learning about IBM's Cloud and Cognitive technologies was influential to understanding and participating in meetings. It was also difficult navigating a new city (but super fun and rewarding!)
How did your experience at ILLINOIS and in the College of Media prepare you for your internship?
My experiences in advertising classes and in the American Advertising Federation built up my strong work ethic and the confidence to share my ideas that helped me succeed in my internship.
How has your internship prepared you for a career?
My internship at IBM showed me the value of working hard, paying attention to detail and being curious. These skills will be integral to success in my future career.
