Internship Title
Branding and Marketing Intern
What were your duties?
I am a part of the planning and marketing team for the College of Media's Sports and Entertainment summer camp. The first few months I helped with research and created a competitive analysis. As the months grew closer to our application launch, I started researching grants and outside funding for the camp. Now I manage the FaceBook page and write grants for further funding.
What did you most enjoy about your internship?
What I most enjoy most about this internship is that I get to see this project all the way through from start to finish. In the end, this camp is going to be a great experience for kids interested in media and I'm happy to be a part of providing that resource.
What was the most difficult aspect of the internship?
The most difficult aspect of the internship is that I have to be very flexible and open to whatever task you're given. Duties change week by week so I have to be prepared to do whatever is needed to help the team!
How did your experience at ILLINOIS and in the College of Media prepare you for your internship?
Illinois has made me more adaptable and comfortable with change. Since this internship can be very hectic sometimes I was ready for whatever was thrown my way! The College of Media prepared me by giving me the writing and communication skills needed to be a vital team member.
How has your internship prepared you for a career?
I am now more accustomed to working on a deadline. I now have experience in creating competitive analyses, organizing a communication grid and Social Media writing. I have a bit of experience in grant writing and programs like Webtools and Slate.
What recommendations do you have for other students about doing an internship?
Getting an internship while on campus, no matter how small or how random the subject, will always be beneficial. I have learned more about myself and how I work, what I want to pursue and what I hate. Moving forward, I will be able to apply this knowledge that I get from the classroom to real life problems. I'll also make more connections to people in the industry.
