Internship Title
Junior Designer
What were your duties?
I worked closely with the lead designer and copywriter, creating illustrations for blog images, display ad sets for client PPC campaigns, and worked on internal design work such as infographics and newsletters.
What did you most enjoy about your internship?
I liked the creative freedom it allowed. I was able to learn a lot about the world of digital marketing, and apply those concepts to my design work.
What was the most difficult aspect of the internship?
I had to understand a lot of terms surrounding the field of PPC and SEO, and had to learn the basics of digital marketing before I could design icons and representations for their work.
How did your experience at ILLINOIS and in the College of Media prepare you for your internship?
The College of Media resume blitz really helped me prepare for the application, and the career fairs helped me prepare for talking to recruiters at interviews. I highly recommend attending events such as Mosaic or Advasion though AAF as well.
How has your internship prepared you for a career?
This internship was my first exposure to the professional side of design in digital marketing. I was able to see how an agency runs, how to interact with clients and build off each others ideas to create better design work.
What recommendations do you have for other students about doing an internship?
Definitely get involved with the College of Media events, such as career fairs and workshops. These opportunities are great ways to learn how to prepare for applying to internships, and helping you find where to look.
