Program Overview
The REU will be in person in Montana and Minnesota from June 8 to August 7, 2026, with June 7 and August 8 designated as travel dates.
To complete the 10 weeks required by the REU, participants will spend 40 hours of pre-REU time working remotely. During this time, participants will do online tutorials, create a basic Arc GIS Story Map, and meet on Zoom with REU mentors and participants.
We will start our journey at Glacier National Park in Montana on June 8 then begin work at our research sites. At the end of the REU (the first full week in August), we have an All-Team Gathering and Research Symposium in Minneapolis, MN. All transportation is provided.
The program provides transportation, housing, and food or full kitchens depending on location, plus a $700/week stipend (total $7000) to all participants. Students who choose to live in their own housing rather than program-provided housing will not receive further compensation for housing costs.
Eligibility
You must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident to apply for this program. The program is open to undergraduate students majoring in civil engineering, geosciences, ecology, mathematics, or related fields.
