Geneva Lake Environmental Agency
The Geneva Lake Environmental Agency is hiring a summer employee to assist in its lake management efforts for the summer of 2022. An internship is available if desired. A specific project for the summer of 2022 will be helping with a Lake Use Survey. Along with an assessment of zebra mussel’s impact on the benthic community.
Interested students will have an opportunity to not only work on one of Wisconsin’s premier lakes but also learn the “ins and outs” of local lake management. Students majoring in biology, water resource management, limnology, outdoor/environmental education, or related fields should apply.
Candidates should be familiar with the chemical, physical, and biological workings of a lake and its watershed. Experience in sampling and identifying macroinvertebrate communities would be helpful but not required. Candidates should possess good speaking, writing, and computer skills, be comfortable snorkeling and swimming in a large lake. Responsibilities may include any of the following: benthic sampling and organism identification, bacterial sampling of municipal beaches, lake sampling, data analysis, report preparation, Clean Boats Clean Waters, web page preparation, and presentations to local governmental bodies (zoning committees, town boards, etc.).
The Geneva Lake Environmental Agency is an inter-municipal lake management agency charged with the management of Geneva Lake, a 5,262-acre, mesotrophic lake with a 13,000-acre watershed. It is in south-central Walworth County in southeastern Wisconsin and is one of the major recreational destinations for northeastern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.
The position is a full-time summer intern position running from approximately mid-May through the end of August. The exact hours, start, and end dates are negotiable. Starting pay is $14.00 per hour depending on experience and skills.
