My name is Riley Lehmann and I graduated from Urbana-Champaign in May. I am spending my summer helping out the Chicago Furniture Bank, one of the largest furniture banks in the country. Besides donating furniture to those that need it, the most consequential thing we do is divert furniture from landfills. This helps to relieve a massive strain on the environment, since almost 10 million tons of furniture are dumped in landfills each year.
We have tried our best to quantify this in digestible figures, like the amount of trees we save from recycling wood dressers. The research gets very dense very quickly, so we were wondering if we could extend it as a special project to a few of your students.
If you think that you could help us out, please let me know. We would love the help and it could be a nice resume builder for some of your students.
