The Conservation Technician will be responsible for assisting the Soil Erosion Officer to strengthen and improve the effectiveness of Antrim County’s Soil Erosion Program and provide technical assistance to private landowners, villages and townships. The Conservation Technician will also assist riparian landowners through the implementation and expansion of the Healthy Lakes Initiative. The Conservation Technician is supervised by the Antrim County Soil Erosion Officer and the Antrim Conservation Interim Supervisor. This position is being funded as part of a pilot project and will therefore be considered a temporary full-time salaried position. The position is guaranteed through December 2021, with continuation based upon programming needs and future funding. Compensation:Annual salary of $37,440. This conditional position includes paid time off including 13 days paid vacation, 13 days paid sick days, and 13 paid holidays. The position does not include health or retirement benefits. Description of Duties:The Conservation Technician will split time between the Healthy Lakes Initiative and Soil Erosion. Approximately 2.5 days per week will be spent on Soil Erosion and 2.5 days on the Healthy Lakes Initiative. The split of time will be flexible depending on shifting needs for both programs (heavy rain events for Soil Erosion; grant deadlines etc. for Healthy Lakes). The Conservation Technician will perform other duties as assigned to support the mission of the Antrim Conservation District.Healthy Lakes Initiative duties:Implement the Healthy Lakes Initiative with support from the Soil Erosion Officer Research and write grant applications for Healthy Waters projects (green infrastructure, restoration, wetland and shoreline protection etc.) with support from soil erosion officer Provide technical assistance to private landowners interested in conservation and water quality Promote the Healthy Lakes Initiative with support from the Communications & Outreach Coordinator Seek fundraising opportunities with support from the District Administrator Expand and prioritize Healthy Lakes projects, establish database for desired projects Provide education for contractors, landowners etc. regarding Healthy Lakes Initiative Best management practices. Develop and strengthen partnerships with Antrim County lake associations, local businesses, villages, townships, and regional environmental non-profit organizations Develop activities that engage the community with assistance from Communications and Outreach Coordinator Work with townships to enhance and enforce existing shoreline ordinances Compile education and outreach materials so efforts are not duplicatedSoil Erosion duties:The Conservation Technician will be assigned and responsible for a share of townships from within the current Soil Erosion program, as appropriate, and will receive oversite and assistance from the Soil Erosion Officer.The Conservation Technician will be responsible for:Administration of permits and permit applications for assigned townships Inspections and related documentation for assigned townships Planning of contractors’ workshop with Soil Erosion Officer Integration of new soil erosion software for the program Quantification, collection and organization of data for the soil erosion program Work with the Soil Erosion Officer to improve the execution of Antrim County’s Soil Erosion programRequired Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in natural resource management or related field OR Associates degree with 4 for more years of field experience Construction stormwater certification and soil erosion and sedimentation plan review and design certification (or willing to acquire) Good written and oral communication Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ARC GIS Willingness to work outside in adverse conditions Valid Driver's LicensePreferred Skills:Knowledge of aquatic biology and biologic systems Construction or landscaping experience Information technology savvy, literate and comfortable working with database and software programs Common sense approach Ability to remain calm and at ease in tense situationsInstructions for applying:Please visit our website at www.antrimcd.com to learn more about Antrim Conservation District.
