Please read below the qualifications for this position:
- Must be 21 years old at the time of appointment (before October 24, 2022)
- Must be able to obtain a valid Wisconsin driver’s license
- Must not have any unpardoned felony criminal convictions or for any crimes that would be considered a felony if committed in Wisconsin
- Must not have any unpardoned domestic violence convictions
Appointment will be subject to successful completion of the following 1) physical fitness assessments; 2) background investigation; and 3) psychological testing, drug screen and medical exam.
Department of Justice (DOJ) requires that all law enforcement officers have at least 60 college credits, or possess a college credit waiver. If you do not currently have 60 college credits or a waiver from DOJ, you will be required to obtain 60 college credits within the first 5 years of employment to maintain law enforcement credentials.
Upon appointment, all applicants must possess certification in ATV, Boating, and Snowmobile Safety and possess a valid driver’s license with no OWI convictions within one year, and no more than 2 moving violations or at fault accidents within the past two years. DNR does not sponsor work visas, thus, in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.
All state employees are required to report their COVID vaccination status, whether vaccinated or not, and must provide supporting documentation if vaccinated. Newly hired employees will be required to submit this information within their first two weeks of employment. At this time, those who are unvaccinated are subject to weekly COVID-19 testing protocols.
Upon successful completion of the training program, Conservation Wardens are required to live within certain boundaries of their assigned station. Please see the attached pdf for a list of current vacant stations and their living requirements. More stations may become available throughout this hiring process. Successful applicants may be allowed a moving stipend.
