Resource Conservation Technician

Position Summary:
The Resource Conservation Technician’s primary purpose is to assist Conservation Coordinators and Planners in the implementation of conservation practices. The majority of this work focuses on riparian buffer restoration projects and installing in-stream bio-engineered structures. Serving as an integral member of a team of conservation professionals working primarily in the field. The position will help plan, organize, and coordinate crew members, complete field work, and assists other staff in carrying out miscellaneous grant or contract-related tasks as part of the District’s annual plan of work. This position is a member of the District’s team of natural resource conservation professionals working together to enhance and protect natural resources within the District.
Major Duties:
- Direct supervision of crews when working in the field (this will include PCD Americorps members and contracted crews).
- Coordinate local conservation crews to schedule and complete field work during busy field seasons.
- Work closely with project managers to determine field work needs, create crew schedule, complete tasks on time and within budget.
- Independently manage and track field crew time, equipment, travel, etc.
- Lead trainings for field crew members on proper planting techniques, safe tool and equipment operation and maintenance, and noxious/invasive and native plant ID.
- Track internal inventory of planting supplies and reorder when necessary.
- Resolve conflicts among crew members and maintains positive team environment.
- Complete riparian restoration tasks (including but not limited to harvesting and preparing plant materials, planting (bare-root, container stock, and stakes), spraying weeds, brush cutting/mowing,
- watering, and installing woody structures in streams).
- Operate and maintain hand tools and small engine machinery.
- Complete monthly vehicle checks and schedule regular vehicle maintenance as needed.
- Track internal inventory of planting supplies and reorder when necessary.
- Provide outreach and communicate program and project activities to co-workers, granting agencies, PCD Board of Supervisors, project partners and the community.
- Enhance public awareness and knowledge of the value of healthy natural resources, and the need to maintain diverse, productive, and sustainable watersheds.
- Performs other related duties as required.
