Job DescriptionThis position is responsible for coordinating the development and implementation of environmental education programs. This position has direct supervision over Naturalist.
Job Duties- Plans, develops, and manages the delivery of formal environmental education programming for schools, colleges and universities, and home school groups.
- Plans, develops and manages the delivery of informal environmental education programming for schools, community organizations and the general public.
- Coordinates the work of Naturalists in the design, development, coordination, promotion, scheduling, and presentation of formal and informal programs.
- Assists the Director with hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating staff.
- Develops new programs to address current conservation issues and in response to requests from the public and/or schools.
- Coordinates the scheduling of programs and events; manages program calendars; coordinates with local schools and community groups.
- Develops and implements marketing and promotional strategies; designs posters and flyers; writes articles and press releases; provides interviews for local radio and television stations; coordinates social media outreach.
- Trains, assigns, directs, supervises, and evaluates assigned personnel.
- Coordinates and directs annual and special events.
- Coordinates the recruitment, training, supervision, and scheduling of volunteers for designated programs.
- Completes a variety of regular and special reports, include reports to the Conservation Board and the Director.
- Coordinates and leads a variety of programs.
- Feeds and cares for exhibit and educational animals.
- Writes and administer grant proposals for the development of the county conservation program, including for state and federally fund grant programs and projects.
- Compiles and submits proposed budgets to the Director; presents procurement requests for programming supplies.
- Monitors recreational needs, evaluates existing facilities, and makes recommendations regarding improvements and operational policies.
- Operates motor vehicle.
- Performs related duties.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's Degree in Forestry, Biology, Ecology, or related natural science field.
- One to three years related work experience with an emphasis on teaching and interpretation.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Iowa for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. This includes, but is not limited to, a Class D-Chauffeurs license (15 passenger van).
- Basic First Aid and CPR certification

Supplemental Information
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT- The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
- The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

Full-time employees are defined as those that are regularly scheduled to work at least 40 hours per week. County sponsored insurance premiums are pre-tax withholdings.
Part time workers do not qualify for insurance unless necessary qualifications are met, however, part-time employees may qualify for IPERS.
