Primary Position Function/Summary: Responsible for operating equipment at the ISWS Bondville Field Research Station, collecting and processing environmental samples, and providing technical assistance to support environmental research projects.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Research appropriate equipment for field use in the Central Analytical Laboratory. Assist in operation and troubleshooting field equipment at ISWS Bondville field site (including continuous air quality monitors and other meteorological equipment). Assist with operations at Bondville field site, including deployment and retrieval of samples and maintenance and documentation of procedures. Enter and maintain project data in database, assisting with preparation of reports and publications. Maintain accurate records for projects. Follow all CAL protocols for handling samples and supplies. Assist as needed with CAL site support, including supply and sample receiving as backup. In-state travel and work outside of the normal business hours (including weekends and holidays). Must perform duties following SOP's and as defined by project sponsors within defined deliverable timelines and with strict Quality Control (QC) procedures; and additionally monitor and review SOP's to ensure they adequately describe current tasks and notify supervisory staff of any changes that are required. Safety training and internal certifications must be maintained. Must be able to lift 50 pounds to waist height.
Qualifications:
Required: A bachelor’s degree in a science-related field. Experience working with a laboratory or field research project; experience with Microsoft Office; including Work, Excel, and Powerpoint. A valid driver’s license is required. Familiarity with following standard operating procedures (SOP's) and quality control (QC) procedures.
Preferred: One year field or laboratory experience, and experience with data analysis or databases.
Proposed start date: as soon as possible after close, or until a suitable candidate is identified.
Salary: is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Appointment status: 80%-part-time, benefits eligible, academic professional position
