Position Summary:
Conservation Corps New Mexico, along with the Gila National Forest Recreation program is providing an opportunity for one qualified individual to serve as a Recreation Technician. This position would provide much needed support in areas such as GIS, data-stewardship, and sustainable recreation planning, with the goal of providing well-rounded, diverse on-the-job experience, and development of usable professional skills with hopes of expanding understanding and awareness of the stewardship of public lands necessary to become effective natural and cultural resource professionals.
Major Duties:
- Work with supervisor and GIS specialist to create trailhead map templates, trail master planning documents, and key messaging and implementation of the National Trail Strategy for a sustainable trail system.
- Locate forest system and user created trails and conduct rapid trail assessments.
- Research best management practices and update recreation opportunity guides using trail management tools.
- Work with the Gila National Forest's trail crew for on-the-job training.
- Check visitor use of recreation facilities and trails.
- Manage visitor information data and analyze data.
