Position Summary: The program coordinator is a staff member in the Environmental Resource Program (ERP), the science education and community engagement unit in the UNC Institute for the Environment (IE). The program coordinator engages off-campus audiences in environmental science programming, based on the research foci of UNC IE and other externally-funded UNC research centers. Program activities may include workshops for community-based organizations and environmental science professionals, experiential education opportunities for undergraduates, K-12 teacher professional development, summer science enrichment programs for middle and high school students, and outreach to other broad audiences.
This position is full-time, based in Chapel Hill, NC. It requires some weekend and evening work and the ability to travel statewide to implement programming.
This positon will include coordination aspects of the NC Watershed Stewardship Network, including the watershed planning workshops and the WSN online interactive tool. Applications due by Thanksgiving Day.
Educational Requirements: MS in environmental science management education, resource management, public health, planning, or related field.
Qualifications and Experience: Knowledge of environmental education concepts and a minimum of three years of experience in developing and conducting environmental science-focused training activities. Demonstrated experience in engaging diverse learners in environmental /science education. Experience managing internship programs and working with faculty and undergraduate students, local and state government, and community audiences. Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including writing and editing reports and grant proposals.
Preferred skills and abilities: Experience conducting water-related educational activities. Experience managing websites (especially using WordPress) and applying environmental datasets in training and education.
