U.S. Army ERDC-CERL is conducting research to compare bacterial interactions at the molecular level between closely related native and introduced legume species. The research project seeks a motivated undergraduate student for the spring semester and possibly beyond that is interested in plant-microbe interactions, analytical chemistry, and/or molecular biology. The project will include the fabrication and co-culture of multiple soil bacterial species within microfluidic devices, as well as collection and separation of chemical constituents within said devices.
Work will also involve the identification of unknown bacterial species and analysis of the bacterial growth with a variety of techniques, including liquid chromatography, fluorescence microscopy, and mass spectrometry. Work will be located at ERDC-CERL in NW Champaign and requires US citizenship.
Interested students are asked to send a resume and address any questions to ryan.r.busby@usace.army.mil.
