Sustainability Programs Coordinator
The Institute for Sustainability, Energy and Environment, http://sustainability.illinois.edu/, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is seeking a Sustainability Programs Coordinator to develop, organize and implement programs, events and activities to further the strategic purposes of iSEE sustainability, education and outreach activities.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop ideas and strategy to promote sustainability efforts and create detailed implementation plans. Work with appropriate departments, committees and individuals to implement sustainability projects.
- Identify desirable sustainability initiatives and assess their cost effectiveness, technical feasibility, and acceptance by the university community. Develop metrics to evaluate sustainability programs.
- Work with the Associate Directors of Campus Sustainability and Education and Outreach to develop and oversee sustainability related programs to engage students, faculty, and staff.
- Coordinate data collection for sustainability reporting, awards, and recognitions; and submit on behalf of campus.
- Help introduce incoming freshmen to existing courses teaching sustainability related subjects. Assist the Associate
- Director for Education and Outreach with developing the Minor and advising students.
- Assist the Associate Director for Education and Outreach in building connections with corporate partners and alumni to help set up internships and classroom projects for students enrolled in the Minor.
- Organize public education and outreach activities for the Institute.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Required qualifications:
Bachelor degree in a discipline related to sustainability, including civil & environmental engineering, environmental studies, or other relevant field. Alternate degree fields will be considered/accepted if accompanied by equivalent experience (depending on nature and depth of experience as it relates to this position)
Experience coordinating, organizing and implementing programs and events. Experience in training and educational outreach. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Demonstrate a commitment to diversity; ability to work effectively with all constituencies in a diverse institution. Possess effective communication and public outreach techniques, and be proactive and self-motivated. Ability to handle multiple assignments, and work well with a variety of constituencies. Demonstrated computer competency; intermediate to advanced computer skills.
Preferred qualifications:
Experience implementing environmental, sustainability (or other related) programs. Experience working in an academic setting. Knowledge of the University community and student body as necessary to plan, coordinate and implement a variety of program activities and events.
Proposed start date: as soon as possible after closing date. Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Appointment Status: Regular 100% academic professional appointment / 12 month service basis. Benefit eligible position.
