Qual: Skelly and Loy is seeking an individual to serve as an Environmental Field Technician to work on a variety of projects involving multiple environmental subject areas. The individual shall have the desire to expand their capabilities and experience through on-the–job training, professional courses, and study programs. Overnight travel and some occasional evening/weekend work will be involved. EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: • High School diploma and a minimum of 3 years of experience in the asbestos/industrial hygiene field. REQUIRED SKILLS: Computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook; • Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry (PADOLI) certification as an Asbestos Supervisor •Excellent oral and written communication skills; • Ability to read and understand work scopes, and requirements to meet project goals; • Ability to taken responsibilities and work with minimal supervision, when needed; • Time, resource, and material management; • Responsiveness to client requests; •Ability to work on multiple project assignments concurrently while adhering to schedules and budgets; • Ability to work in a team environment; • Ability to lift 40 lbs or greater, traverse on foot over rough terrain, climbing a ladder (up to 20 feet), and work indoors/outdoors in various weather conditions(possibly in inclement weather); • Ability to be approved medically to wear a negative pressure and positive pressure respirator; • Valid driver’s license. DESIRED SKILLS: • Familiarity in using field screening health and safety instruments; • Familiarity in using personal protective equipment; • Familiarity with logging borings and well construction; • Familiarity with collecting water level data and the use of electronic data loggers. PREFERRED SKILLS: •Certifications: PADOLI Asbestos Inspector, Project Designer, and/or Management Planner; PADOLI lead-based paint (LBP) Inspector and Risk Assessor; NIOSH 582 training/certification; City of Philadelphia API; • OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER training; • Confined Space entry training; •Completion of a technical writing course.
Duties: • Conduct field sampling for: asbestos, lead, mold, surface water quality sampling, domestic/residential water quality sampling, groundwater and well sampling, soil sampling, sample preparation/labeling and chain-of-custody completion, noise monitoring; • Perform various aspects of Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments; • Conduct site assessments for asbestos and hazardous materials and oversee abatement/remediation work; verification of remediation activities ensuring contractor compliance with Federal and state regulations; • Assist with the development of reports for investigative findings; • Download/upload data from field monitoring instruments; • Coordinate work with supervisors, co-workers, clients, regulatory agencies, and subcontractors; • Meet project/administrative schedules and budgets; • Perform work duties in accordance with corporate health and safety policies.
