YOUTH OUTDOORS CREW MEMBER/LEADER: Twenty (20) Temporary, Full-time Positions. Pay: $1255-1565/mo stipend, $5730 educational award. Dates: 2/1/16 - 12/15/16.
Location: Conservation Corps Minnesota & Iowa, Saint Paul, Minnesota.
Qual: -- AmeriCorps service position (ages 18-25) -- Term dates: February 15 (Crew Leaders: February 1) – December 15, 2016 -- Schedule: Full-time, 40hrs/week, Monday-Friday typical. Daily schedule varies and includes after-school and weekend hours. -- Stipend: $1255/mo for Crew Members;$1565/mo for Crew Leaders -- Education award: $5730 upon successful completion of term -- Locations: Twin Cities, MN. Crew Member; -- Work with diverse youth in conservation, education and recreation settings -- Foster strong work habits, environmental ethics, youth leadership and team unity --Present to large groups in an outdoor setting, sometimes consisting of over 60 people of all ages -- Teach workshops for the “I Can!” program, which includes sufficient camping or paddling skills. Crew Leader (in addition to above Crew Member qualifications) -- Prior leadership experience with peers --Experience coordinating project tasks and logistics -- Experience and/or education in natural resource management, environmental education, youth development or outdoor recreation - 18-25 years old -- Flexible schedule to accommodate after-school and weekend hours, as well as possible week-long out-of-town projects and emergency response. -- Ability to perform the Essential Service Functions 40 hours per week, including long (10 hr) days of physically demanding outdoor work. -- Full term of service must be completed in order to receive the education award. -- Crew Leaders Only: Valid driver’s license and safe driving record (no major moving violations or DUI’s in the past five years). Duties: Work outdoors leading youth in environmental conservation work! AmeriCorps Youth Outdoors Members and Leaders (ages 18-25) engage TwinCities’ youth in after-school service projects and environmental education. In spring and fall, corps members lead crews of Twin Cities’ youth participants (ages 15-18) in environmental education and community service projects after school and on Saturdays. When not leading youth, Member sand Leaders perform natural resource restoration projects with a crew of their adult peers. Corps members inspire youth, conduct community outreach and restore habitat in partnership with resource management agencies, working alongside conservation professionals.
