PROGRAM COORDINATOR
The Great Lakes Observing System (GLOS) is searching for an outgoing and self-motivated individual to serve as a Program Coordinator working out of our offices in Ann Arbor, MI. This is a full-time position. The Program Coordinator will report to the Executive Director. Because GLOS is a small and relatively new organization, this is a great position for individuals looking to work in a “startup” type environment that provides opportunity for leadership experience and advancement.
GLOS provides public access to critical real-time and historical information about the Great Lakes, St. Lawrence River and interconnecting waterways for use in managing, safeguarding, and understanding these freshwater resources. GLOS is focused in identifying and meeting the needs of data users according to the process and priorities outlined in the strategic plan, The Great Lakes Observing System Blueprint: A Strategy for Data for Decision-Making. The Program Coordinator will ensure that the projects GLOS supports are aligned with The Blueprint and support the data needs of the diverse community of Great Lakes data stakeholders including scientists, resource managers, engineers, software developers, NGOs, policy-makers, and industry.
RESPONSIBILITES:
· Coordinate day to day operations of GLOS programmatic activities including but not limited to consulting regularly with GLOS members, partners, user communities and GLOS PIs to ensure project success.
· Prepare and maintain grant proposals, project plans, records, and reports including some budget planning and management at the project level.
· Contracts and grants management including monitoring and oversight of fiscal and programmatic performance to ensure that all terms and conditions are met.
· Assist with coordination of competitive bid processes, proposal review, scope of work development, and budget negotiations for contracted activities.
· Support for programmatic and strategic planning to ensure GLOS products meet user data needs as part of a service oriented approach.
· Support the design and implementation of a member, client, and stakeholder recruitment, engagement, and communications strategies.
· Track and contribute to regional science and policy initiatives and work groups, review literature, and contribute to publications as needed.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field e.g. environmental policy, natural resource management, water related sciences.
- A minimum of two years relevant professional experience.
- Experience with group facilitation (e.g, meeting planning, developing and tracking action items, tracking group processes).
- Interest or experience related to data life cycle management, open science/data sharing, science/data communications, earth observations, and/or familiarity with related national and global initiatives and/or the related technologies.
- Grant writing and grant management experience.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS CONTINUED:
- Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills, including ease in communicating complex concepts in a clear, effective manner for a general audience.
- There will be some travel associated with this position. Estimate 2-3 trips per year throughout the Great Lakes region (including Canada) as well as to the Washington D.C. area. A valid passport is required.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- A strong network within the relevant resource management, policy-making, university and/or Great Lakes industry/business communities;
- Master’s degree in a relevant field e.g. environmental policy, natural resource management, water related sciences.
- Four or more years relevant professional experience.
- Recognized ability to meet multiple deadlines by maintaining a high level of organization.
- Creative thinking and desire to contribute to a fun and inspired office environment.
