Description
Summary: Under general supervision, is responsible for professional wildlife management work of considerable difficulty; and performs related work as required.
The successful applicant:
-Serves as the white-tailed deer/ wild hog liaison (i.e., subject matter expert) to the Commission and Agency partners, field staff and executive staff
-Presents professional level programmatic information to the Commission and Agency staff
-Serves on several committees including: Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies’ Cervid and Wild Hog Working Groups, Southeastern Deer Study Group Technical Committee, TN Wild Hog Eradication Action Team, etc.
-Coordinates statewide deer and wild hog management activities (e.g., disease testing) with regional wildlife biologists
-Regularly presents programmatic information to stakeholders and colleagues
-Analyzes deer/wild hog data and compiles programmatic annual reports
-Leads deer/wild hog research efforts
-Coordinates and facilitates meetings
-Creates educational outreach materials (e.g. website, magazine, press release, etc.)
-Policy and hunting regulation development
-Budget and contract management
-Participates in several annual/biennial conferences (e.g., Southeast Deer Study Group annual meeting, Wildlife Damage Management Conference, International Wild Pig Conference, Tennessee Chapter of the Wildlife Society annual meeting, etc.)
-On occasion, leads wildlife management university classes
-Participates actively in continuing education
Qualifications
Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in wildlife or fish management or closely related field and experience equivalent to two years of full-time professional wildlife resources work.
OR
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in wildlife or fish management or closely related field and experience equivalent to four years of full-time professional wildlife, fisheries or related experience.
Other Requirements:
Necessary Special Qualifications: Applicants for this class may be required to have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license for some positions.
