Job Description This position is a program specialist that provides leadership and coordination of all aspects of the Department's Invasive Species program efforts across multiple Divisions and working with multiple Departments: Environmental Quality (DEQ), Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) and Transportation (MDOT). This position is the state's expert on invasive plants, mammals and birds and the program leader that helps ensure priority actions are taken to understand and respond to invasive species threats. This position is responsible for maintaining an up-to-date Terrestrial Invasive Species (TIS) State Management Plan (SMP) and ensuring coordinated implementation across Departments and Divisions, and with the Aquatic Invasive Species SMP. This position is responsible for representing Michigan at various regional and national invasive species conferences and provides statewide expertise on invasive species to a variety of partner organizations through collaborative workgroups, state and federal invasive species grants, trainings, and meetings. Required Education and Experience Education Possession of a bachelor's degree in natural resource science or biological science with at least 8 semester credits in wildlife biology and 16 semester credits in any combination of course work in the areas of botany, ecology, ecosystem management, entomology, natural resources GIS applications, mammalogy, ornithology, wildlife management, zoology, conservation biology, human dimensions of fish and wildlife management, evolutionary biology, forest resources, environmental science, or natural resources law and policy. Experience Four years of professional experience as a Wildlife Biologist, including two years equivalent to a Wildlife Biologist P11 or Research Biologist P11 in wildlife research, or one year equivalent to a Wildlife Biologist 12 or Research Biologist 12 in wildlife research.
