RESOURCE SCIENCE TECHNICIAN
Statewide Mussel Program
Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) temporary position at the Central Regional Office and Conservation Research Center, Columbia, Missouri. Successful candidate’s primary job duty will be to assist with projects being conducted as part of the Statewide Mussel Program. Duties will include work in the field, laboratory, and office, including maintenance of gear and equipment, collection of mussels and habitat data, data entry and database management, GIS work, literature searches, assistance with report preparation, and other duties as assigned.
HOURS AND PAY RATE: $9.86 per hour. Applicants should be able to work up to 40 hours per week from late spring to summer; work schedule can be flexible during the academic year. Missouri Department of Conservation benefits are not available for this position; meals and lodging will be paid when overnight stays are required. Continuation of employment after June 15, 2017 is dependent upon Conservation Commission approval of the FY2018 operating budget.
QUALIFICATIONS: Course work toward completion of a degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Sciences, Biological Sciences, or related major; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with macroinvertebrate and/or fish collecting techniques or conducting aquatic habitat assessments is desirable.
SPECIAL ABILITY REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work as part of a team. Ability to swim. Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather and rough terrain, requiring extended hours and overnight stays. Ability to accurately and legibly record data. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs for short distances. Ability to follow instructions and protocol and communicate with supervisors. Driver’s license required, and ability to operate 4-wheel drive vehicles and boats preferred.
