Webster Street, Madison, WI and will travel throughout the state, as needed.

Position Summary: As the Bureau Director of Wildlife Management you will be a leader and strategist in the planning, developing, implementing and evaluating statewide wildlife management initiatives within the Fish, Wildlife and Parks Division. The director will monitor current trends and future expectations in order to establish strategic goals for the Bureau of Wildlife Management.This role will also provide direction for the formulation of laws, policies, budgets/funding allocations and assignment of staff.
The director will work closely with others and will represent the department on wildlife matters with a network of colleagues, internal program staff, various government agencies, and other conservation businesses/group. This position also advises and supports the Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) administration and the Department Leadership Team in ensuring coordinated policies throughout the state. Working with these various teams, the Wildlife Management Bureau Director ensures action and resource requirements are properly aligned to allow for goals to be met and inspires the team to achieve them. Developing trust with others while establishing effective interpersonal relationships and communications are critical to this role in order to problem solve and make effective decisions.
Special Notes: The geographic scope of work is statewide. The role is required to travel throughout the state to attend various meetings, provide presentations, participate in planning teams and may occasionally travel nationally.
Qualifications: Minimally qualified candidates will have experience in ALL areas listed below:
•Experience in natural resource management, wildlife management, game species management OR habitat management programs •Experience in supervision/leadership of direct reports •Experience in strategic management - Please describe the initiative(s) you have led within an organization or program from start to finish that addressed policy, strategy, quality improvement, budget, and evaluation. •Skills with developing interpersonal relationships, building trust and also excellent communications, problem solving, decision making and handling conflict.
Highly preferred candidates will have the ability to identify and understand the needs to external stakeholders important to Wildlife Management.
