Snohomish County Surface Water Management (SWM) is seeking a Habitat Specialist to participate in salmon recovery, collect habitat and water quality parameters from local waterbodies, manage and analyze data, write reports and assist with environmental permitting.
The ideal candidate has:
- Professional experience building and maintaining collaborative relationships with agencies, tribes, and other stakeholders.
- Significant expertise in salmon life history and habitat requirements and salmon recovery practices. This includes knowledge of salmon recovery management at the local and regional scale.
- Significant experience managing and analyzing natural resource datasets. Experience using GIS to analyze habitat data is a plus.
- Experience planning and conducting natural resource surveys in rivers, streams, estuaries and marine shorelines.
- Experience monitoring various stream, river, estuary and/or marine project types (protection, restoration, mitigation) to evaluate effectiveness.
- Experience writing sampling and quality assurance plans and technical and non-technical reports.
- Knowledge of Critical Area Regulations, Shoreline Management Plans, and Flood Hazards regulations as it applies to permitting capital projects.
- Knowledge of federal and state environmental permitting requirements such as requirements for Corp permits and Hydraulic Project Approvals.
