    Job Summary

    YCC Assistant Crew Leader is a second or third year YCC Program Participant, responsible for aiding Crew Leaders with supervision of crew. The Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) is aprogram that offers Lake County youth gainful summer employment in the outdoor atmosphere of our county’s forest preserves. The program includes an environmental education and outdoorrecreation component. Work projects in past summers have included such tasks as developing nature trails, planting and maintaining native flora, stream bank restoration, basic outdoormaintenance tasks, construction of trail bridges, soil retaining walls, and canoe launches.

    Essential Functions & Experience

    Essential Functions -

    Assists in the supervision of up to six Youth Conservation Corps members on a daily basis.  Maintains a safe working environment.  Completes reports and paperwork as assigned.  Supervise Crew Members in absence of Crew Leader.  Drives a motorized vehicle to travel to different locations.  Performs tasks that will require walking, bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, climbing, reaching and sitting.  Performs lifting tasks up to 50 pounds.
    Experience -

    One season of work as a Youth Conservation Corps Program participant who has demonstrated leadership abilities.  Must be at least 18 years of age.  Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.  Desire to pursue environmental career helpful.  Ability to make decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.  Must possess good problem solving ability and good judgment.
