Essential Functions -
Implements efforts to improve the District’s internal and external communication on environmental topics. Works closely with staff to execute strategies aimed to help Lake County residents better understand environmental impact issues, land management techniques, and related educational program topics. Creates designs and content for a variety of promotional and educational products to support the District’s environmental communications efforts. Handles production and distribution of these communication materials. Communicates information related to conservation and environmental impact issues, such as restoration projects, invasive species, orphaned wildlife, nuisance wildlife, and related topics. Designs concepts and develops content for publications, website, advertisements, collateral materials, exhibits, illustrations, informational signs, social media, and digital marketing. Monitors other key District publications and the website for consistency, reader needs, and inter-departmental issues related to environmental topics. Handles various aspects of media relations and general communications, including: fielding media calls; pitching story ideas; writing features, news releases, and photo opportunities; coordinating media tours; preparing grant and award applications; writing letters and speeches; and creating audio-visual presentations for directors, managers, and other staff. Promotes or assists with special events and programs related to conservation goals. Responds to changes and demands in the event planning process. Handles related purchasing procedures and facilitates vendor contract negotiations. Plans informational exhibits for community fairs, trade shows, conferences, and special events when they relate to conservation or nature-based topics. Presents programs to civic groups and other organizations. Takes digital photographs and videos. Assists with or hires vendors to oversee the production of commercial photography, videography, graphic design, writing, and printing. Drives a motorized vehicle to travel to different locations. Performs tasks that will require walking, bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, climbing, reaching and sitting.Performs lifting tasks up to 50 pounds.

Experience - Bachelor's Degree in environmental communications, wildlife ecology, natural resource management, public relations, marketing, environmental education, or a related field. Two years of graphic design, writing, public speaking, and media relations experience in the field of environmental education or conservation. Familiarity with a variety of marketing and public relations concepts, practices, and procedures. High degree of creativity used when designing concepts and developing content for communications. Advanced skills in graphic design, editing, writing, and data interpretation. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail in proofreading, planning events, and managing digital files. Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to create presentations for staff, media outlets, and community groups. Knowledge in the use of audiovisual and photography equipment. Must possess a valid driver’s license. |
