Mosquito Surveillance and Abatement Biker
The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD) is seeking individuals to work under the direct supervision of a licensed Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA) applicator as Mosquito Surveillance and Abatement Bikers (MSAB). The selected candidates will be responsible for: collecting, testing and reporting data for Culex mosquitoes and dead birds involving West Nile virus, investigating mosquito nuisance complaints and breeding sites, conducting public information activities and applying mosquito larvicide throughout all assigned treatment routes. Larvicide application duties will be performed by bicycle. The District will supply bicycles and any required safety equipment.
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent; undergraduate students majoring in a related field are preferred. The selected candidates must exhibit and maintain a high level of efficiency and dependability, while working independently in this field environment. Basic bicycle repair knowledge is preferred. This position requires a valid driver’s license, dependable transportation and proof of auto insurance. Duties may be performed during peak times when heat is most prevalent.
This position is seasonal lasting approximately three (3) months, 35 hours per week starting in late spring. Compensation for this position starts at $12.34 per hour.
