Salary: $11.25/hour for a 40-hour week
12-month Position
An exciting opportunity is available to work with Ducks Unlimited, the leader in wetlands conservation. The goal of the Conservation Intern position is to foster the growth of future waterfowl professionals by developing the skills necessary to help them successfully transition from their academic education to professional resource management. This is an excellent opportunity for aspiring resource professionals to gain experience with Ducks Unlimited’s waterfowl and wetland conservation programs and become knowledgeable about the administrative side of habitat conservation. This position will work closely with a diverse group of staff responsible for the many aspects of habitat conservation across the 21-state region. The successful candidate will develop skills in proposal writing, grant administration, project management, communications, landowner assistance, and others which will prove valuable throughout their career. The Conservation Intern position will be based out of Ducks Unlimited’s Great Lakes/Atlantic Regional Office located in Ann Arbor, MI.
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Support biologists and other staff in the delivery of habitat conservation programs.
• Assist in grant proposal development, writing, reporting, and administration.
• Serve as a liaison with private landowners, state and federal agencies, and other partner organizations.
• Support public policy and communications efforts.
• Conduct and assist in public presentations, outreach efforts, and supporter events.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Applicants must have, at minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in a wildlife or wetland related field. Relevant experience in waterfowl or wetland ecology or habitat conservation is helpful and desirable. The successful applicant will be highly motivated, have strong organizational and written and oral communication skills, have the ability to work both independently and as a team member, have excellent computer skills, and have knowledge of waterfowl, wetlands, and wildlife habitat conservation issues. The successful candidate may be asked to travel, sometimes for extended periods, and work in physically-demanding settings and in all weather conditions.
