blog posts WIldlife Management Biologist (Duck Creek CA, Puxico) Due 10/23 Oct 18, 2017 4:15 pm by Dana JohnsonJobs Share on Facebook Tweet Email Images Wildlife Management Biologist at Duck Creek CA, Puxico Full-Time Salary: $36,084-$63,588 Job Description/Job Duties: Under the supervision of the Wildlife Regional Supervisor, serves as the lead wildlife biologist in the Duck Creek District. The Duck Creek District features Duck Creek Conservation Area, one of the Missouri's 15 Managed Waterfowl Hunting Areas. This position's workload features intensive wetland and bottomland hardwood forest management of a newly renovated 5,000 acre wetland, public use management including managed waterfowl hunts, deer hunting, fishing, special events, workshops, University field trips, and scientific researchers using the area for various projects. This position also coordinates daily with USFWS staff at Mingo National Wildlife Refuge (Mingo) on the coordinated effort of managing hunt programs, water level management, and other coordinated projects between Mingo and Duck Creek CA. The Wildlife Management Biologist is also responsible for daily administration of the Duck Creek Headquarters and facilities. The position also writes wildlife management plans and habitat proposals. Provides leadership and general guidance for work team staff regarding district work planning, management and general area operation and maintenance. Prepares annual budget and oversees accounting of expenditures including administration of contracts. Conducts wildlife inventories and management/evaluation projects. Makes recommendations to improve conditions of wildlife populations and habitats by using various tools including GIS applications and various habitat inventory and assessment processes. Plans and drafts capital improvement requests, and prepares and administers grant requests. Coordinates Farm Service Agency (FSA) programs with permittee farmers. Recommends regulations pertaining to public use. Works with Private Land Services Division personnel to assist in District private land activities such as workshops and demonstration areas. Works with personnel of the Natural Resources Conservation Service, University of Missouri Extension Service, FSA, Soil and Water Conservation Districts, and other agencies and non-government groups related to natural resource management for the development of wildlife habitat and wildlife diversity projects. Helps implement the Comprehensive Wildlife Strategy, Missouri Department of Conservation Strategic Plan and other interdivisional plans. Represents the Department and the Wildlife Division at fairs, exhibits and local public meetings. Prepares articles for the Conservationist magazine, local newspaper and other publications. Conducts radio or TV programs upon request. Performs other duties as required. Required Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Wildlife, Forestry, Agriculture or closely related subjects and at least three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience in wildlife management or closely related natural resource field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Approval as Certified Wildlife Biologist by The Wildlife Society is desired. Experience with GIS preferred. Experience with wetland management is preferred. Special Ability Requirements: Obtain a Missouri Driver License by date of employment. Adapt to a variety of job situations involving long hours, hazardous conditions and difficult circumstances. Operate ½-ton truck and burning equipment. Work weekends and early mornings on a regular basis throughout waterfowl season. Conduct special conservation programs to special interest groups and the general public. Train and supervise other employees. Work outdoors in extreme hot or cold temperatures.
