An excellent opportunity is available at the Rock Island District to serve as the GS-13 Program Manager on a major ecosystem restoration program with over 30 years of success in the Upper Mississippi River Basin. The Upper Mississippi River Restoration (UMRR) Program (formerly known as the Environmental Management Program (EMP)) was the first environmental restoration and monitoring program undertaken on a large river system in the United States. This systemic program provides a well-balanced combination of habitat restoration activities, along with monitoring and research. The UMRR Program has a partnership of unparalleled dimensions between a multitude of federal and state agencies, non-governmental organizations, and the general public.
The incumbent serves as the program manager for the Upper Mississippi River Restoration Program. This Program includes ecosystem restoration and resource monitoring and coordinates closely with multiple Federal and State Agencies.
The Rock Island District Headquarters is in the Clock Tower Building on Arsenal Island in Rock Island, IL. Rock Island is part of a metropolitan area known as the Quad-Cities. The Quad-Cities rests on the banks of the Mississippi River and has a total population of approximately 400,000. The Quad-Cities is comprised of the cities of Rock Island and Moline/East Moline in Illinois, and Davenport and Bettendorf in Iowa.
