Job Description: Turn your passion for forestry into your life’s work by becoming a part of a nationally recognized forestry program. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources - Division of Forestry is seeking foresters of all skill and experience levels at various statewide locations.
Job Responsibilities: These forester positions reflect different combinations of duties that are based on forest type and fire risk landscapes. Duties encompass the following four integrated program areas: state lands management, private lands management, county forests management, and fire management. Foresters provide a wide range of services that include; developing, administering, and evaluating forest management programs for county, state, and private forestlands; establishing and administering timber sales on department-managed forestlands; performing fire preparedness, suppression, prevention, and training. As a matter of routine, foresters work cooperatively with other department programs, co-operating foresters, state, county, and federal agencies.
Job Qualifications: The ideal candidates will have effective communication skills, excellent customer service skills, effective decision making, and strong leadership skills in dealing with colleagues, partners, customers, and the general public. We are looking for people with a drive for success and a desire to make a lasting contribution to their community. Candidates are required to have a four-year SAF accredited degree in forestry (or equivalent as determined by the Chief State Forester). All Forester candidates must meet medical and physical fitness standards, possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, meet requirements to operate a state vehicle, and travel independently and on a timely basis. Some candidates will be required to obtain and maintain Deputy Law Enforcement Ranger credentials and/or a commercial driver’s license (CDL) within the first 6 months of employment. Complete details on medical and physical fitness requirements and testing procedures will be sent to candidates that are invited to interviews. Forester positions with fireline responsibilities require that job holders meet and maintain annually the physical requirements of this position as a condition of employment. Some positions with fireline responsibilities are required to respond, when directed, within 30 minutes to the work station for emergency situations.
