Job Description: Subject to the administrative approval of the Division Chief, serves as Assistant Division Chief as well as Protection Section Head; assists in the highly responsible managerial and administrative functions over all programs and field operations within the Division of Natural Heritage; provides professional guidance and supervision to Protection Program staff; consults with the Division Chief in the development of a comprehensive statewide natural heritage research and management program.
Job Qualifications: Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of a Bachelor’s degree in fish, forestry, natural heritage, wildlife or in a related biological science. Requires six years of progressively responsible professional experience in wildlife resource management, including two years professional supervisory experience such as would be acquired as a statewide natural resource program administrator or regional resource administrator; requires thorough knowledge of state and federal laws, rules and regulations pertaining to wildlife resources; requires thorough knowledge of the administrative aspects of the position including such areas as budgeting, procurement, personnel practices and interpersonal relationships of a supervisory and coordinative nature; requires thorough knowledge of wildlife research principles effecting section operations. Requires ability to provide administrative direction and supervision to staff and other employing the service of the Department. Requires ability to coordinate regional operations with other regions, other programs, sections, Department divisions and cooperating agencies.
