Position: Field Research Assistant (hourly position)
Salary: $14-16/hr (40+ hours/week are possible)
Availability: April 1, 2021 - October 31, 2021
Primary Function of Position: Field Research Assistant will work with Survey scientists to conduct statewide data collection on Illinois streams in support of the IEPA NPDES program.
Job Description: Collection and processing of hydrologic data. Duties may include: work with and/or supervise a 2-person crew, calibrate and deploy multi-parameter sondes, collect water quality samples, perform discharge measurements, download sonde data, and perform basic data processing. Assist with other field projects or office tasks as needed.
Qualifications: Student or recent graduate in engineering or natural resources field preferred. Successful applicants will need to be able to follow Standard Operating Procedures for all scientific data collection equipment and instruments used on this project. Effective communication, personal relations, collaboration, organizational, teamwork, and leadership skills. A valid driver’s license is required.
Environmental Demands: Will require working in adverse field conditions (heat, humidity, biting insects, etc.), travel (including driving to and from research sites) throughout the state of Illinois working irregular hours and overnights; lift and carry equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
