The Upper Sugar River Watershed Association (USRWA), a Wisconsin-based non-profit organization, is seeking a part-time Conservation Field Assistant to help carry out our invasive species management efforts in the summer of 2020. This position is for 12-weeks, at 20 hours a week with some variability depending on the needs of our workdays and outreach calendar.
Duties will include outdoor work such as invasive species monitoring and control, leading volunteers at workdays and training events, and implementing Clean Boats Clean Waters boater education at launch ramps. Office work will include documentation for invasive species reporting, event coordination, grant tracking, volunteer correspondence, social media campaign design, and management assistance.
This position will mainly report to the USRWA office located at 207 E Main Street in downtown Mt. Horeb, WI. Reliable car transportation for accessing remote sites around southwest Wisconsin is required, with qualifying mileage reimbursed at the federal rate of $.575/mile.
Suggested position start time is June 1, 2020 to August 21, 2020, although some flexibility around these dates is possible.
Qualifications:
- Passion for conservation and the outdoors.
- Outgoing personality willing to conduct in-person outreach to boating and fishing recreationists.
- Effective communicator both orally and in professional digital correspondence.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a small team.
- High-quality attention to detail.
- Willingness to work outside in summer Wisconsin weather conditions.
- Availability to work some weekends.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and complete physically demanding invasive species control fieldwork.
- Experience/coursework in 2 or more of the following: environmental conservation, biology, botany, limnology, water resources management, outdoor education, or related fields.
- Personal hands-on knowledge and experience with Wisconsin fishing and boating culture. Active hunter/fisherperson a plus.
