Salary: $36,003 (Step 01) to $ 46,807 (Step 10)
NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.
The incumbent is entitled to a cost of living allowance (COLA) of 4.42% in addition to the salary. COLA may be subject to change at any time.
Responsibilities
This is a term appointment not to exceed 13 months with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition. Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status in the Federal service
As an Ecologist within the Pacific Island Ecosystems Research Center, some of your specific duties will include:
- Assists in cataloging and preparing scientific records from complex ecological studies for archiving.
- Uses ecological knowledge to interpret scientific information and prepare material for non-expert audiences.
- Assists in preparing summaries of ecological investigations for web pages and public summaries; assists in preparing website content.
- Gathers, organizes, and inputs data into agency systems and cataloging software to track scientific products.
- Gathers, inputs and creates metadata documentation of data collected during ecological studies.
- Operates a government vehicle as an incidental driver.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
The field work requires some physical exertion such as walking over wet, rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. The work requires moderate physical ability and average agility and dexterity.
Work is performed in an office, laboratory, and/or in the field. The office is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Temperature and weather extremes may be encountered in the performance of the outdoor work. Field and laboratory duties may require the use of special protective gear.
Travel Required
Occasional travel - Overnight travel of up to 2 nights per month may be required.
