Position Summary:
Copperhead Consulting is seeking a temporary Forestry/Habitat Restoration Technicians. One of these positions may convert to permanent upon completion of the season. These positions will conduct forestry and habitat management operations including timber stand improvement (TSI), herbicide application of non-native invasive plant species, forest inventory, and timber sale marking. TSI will be the primary activity for this season and is conducted to improve foraging and maternity habitat for forest dwelling bats, remove invasive species, and release crop trees to increase regeneration of desirable tree species. The position requires strong summer tree identification skills, invasive herbaceous plant identification skills, knowledge and experience in TSI operations (preferred), and herbicide application. The position requires that the individual be, or become, a state certified pesticide applicator in Kentucky. Treatments will be conducted via chemical and mechanical means.
Major Duties:
- Work as part of a team conducting forest management activities.
- Work as part of a team to spray herbicide on invasive herbaceous species.
- Apply pesticides by direct injection, basal, and foliar methods.
- Use pesticides according to the manufacturer’s label.
- Conduct TSI using mechanical methods, to include limited chainsaw use for girdling and felling.
- Follow detailed instructions to complete required tasks.
- Maintain tools and equipment.
- May work under close supervision or infrequent supervision.
