U.S. Forest Service Recreation and Lands Resource Assistant Intern

Position Summary: The work is a combination of office and field work. Field work includes exposure to inclement weather and extreme temperature ranges. The RA will be provided and is required to wear personal protective equipment such as hard hats, earplugs and gloves.
Major Duties:
- Assist with duties in support of the developed campground and trails programs. These include regular maintenance of facilities and trails, using hand and power tools.
- Perform public education and enforcement, including informing visitors of campground rules and regulations.
- Assist with scheduling and leading day-to-day operations of temporary employees and volunteers.
- Ensure practices and tasks are completed in a safe manner. Lead safety tailgate sessions.
- Assist the District Realty Specialist with tracking of land ownership, permits, billings.
- Interpret legal lands project notes, data, specifications and other systems that help to document ownership of property and boundary lines.
- Evaluate recreation needs in planning, organizing, advising on, and administering recreation activities and programs which promote the physical, creative, social, and environmental development of participants. Conduct surveys and studies of existing dispersed and developed recreation facilities and their present use and demand.
- Maintain developed sites, e.g., roadside and backcountry dispersed sites. Make repairs, removes or replaces facilities, or closes areas of facilities when hazards cannot be promptly eliminated. Maintain District recreation facilities such as toilets, road closure gates, hand pumps, water systems, picnic tables, fire rings, barriers, dumpsters, and other miscellaneous structures.
- Provide specific program input into the overall natural resources management planning process.
- Coordinate with other natural resource disciplines ensuring program requirements are included in the project planning and execution.
