Position Summary:
The Education and Outreach Assistant implements community outreach and educational strategies that effectively communicate The Nature Conservancy's conservation messages and promote its conservation and community-involvement efforts.
- Assists in developing educational program content and/or curricula for field and classroom programs;
- May produce publications, materials to promote and increase public awareness (not fundraising);
- Produce educational videos and social media content for sharing with teachers and the general public;
- Establishes and develops collaborative relationships with local schools, universities, state/local agencies and businesses that are involved in environmental education to promote, expand and implement The Nature Conservancy's educational initiatives;
- Recruit, train and manage community volunteers to assist in development of community outreach programs for youth environmental programs, stewardship programs and adult learning;
- Manage the coordination and logistics of planning, execution and impact of various environmental outreach programs;
- Collaborate with teachers, chaperones and large groups of children in natural settings;
- Perform administrative functions as required and within the scope of the grant.
- Travel to and from preserves, meetings and events which are essential to the service of this position
- Maintains preserve areas frequented by the visiting public
- May maintain and operate tools and equipment with training in a safe and efficient manner while taking appropriate care of equipment (e.g. lawn mower, chain saw, tractor, two-way radio, fire management equipment, etc.)
- Housing is provided for easy accessibility to the project area and to perform caretaking duties on the property
- Coordinate projects and set priorities
- Adapt or modify processes in response to changing circumstances
- Interpret guidelines & analyze information
- Duties are performed under direct supervision and established guidelines, with opportunity to act independently on some tasks
- Demonstrate common sense, flexibility and teamwork with ability to exercise independent judgment
- Financial responsibility may include working within a budget to complete projects
- Write, edit & proofread written materials for use with project development and presentation
- Coordinate with vendors/other parties to execute projects/deliverables
- Willingness and ability to travel within the geography assigned
