Position Summary:
The Department of Forestry and Natural Resources is seeking a Field Research Coordinator. This position will conduct field research on a multi-investigator integrated deer management research project in Indiana. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
• Providing training, mentoring, and supervision of undergraduate and bachelor's-level seasonal employees for field data collection
• Participating in all field sampling including remote camera trapping, deer fecal pellet and browse transects, pellet collection for DNA barcoding, planting of seedlings, creation of stump sprouts, and construction of enclosures
• Working closely with Project Coordinator to acquire access to properties, scheduling field activities, and serving as quality control for data collection
• Coordinating field crew logistics throughout the academic year, including transportation and work schedules
• Maintaining research equipment and inventories
• Conducting and providing oversight for initial data entry and for screening of images from remote cameras and aerial sampling
• Assisting with deer sightability trials
• Making recommendations on hiring and termination decisions of undergraduate and bachelor's-level seasonal employees
• Participating in some department-led extension activities This position is a benefits eligible, academic year - limited duration position through May 2021.
