Hampton University, the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO), and the National Science Foundation offer special opportunities for diverse students (undergraduate and graduate) interested in aquatic sciences (oceanography, limnology, stream ecology, marine biology, fisheries, etc.). The program includes students from underrepresented groups and other undergraduate students who are nominated by the director of an REU Ocean Sciences site. The ASLO Multicultural Program provides students full support (abstract fee, registration, airline tickets, food, housing, a special field trip and more) to participate in the annual meetings of ASLO, to take place in February 26 – March 4, 2022, in Honolulu, Hawaii. This is part of the Ocean Sciences Meeting.
Students present their own research in a student symposium or the regular ASLO sessions. They gain valuable learning experiences and exposures to the most recent developments in the aquatic sciences. Participants make important professional contacts that will help them achieve academic and career objectives. Students also receive a free membership in ASLO, including a subscription to the journal Limnology and Oceanography.
Special activities include; A Special pre-conference workshops, working with "meeting mentors" to help students navigate the meetings, a keynote address from a leading aquatic scientist, a very cool field trip, and more!
Since 1990, over 1,200 different students have participated in ASLOMP, coming from over 170 different colleges and universities. Many past participants now return as mentors in the program.
The 2022 ASLOMP application is due by August 20, 2021 at 11:59PM EST.
