    The CivicSpark Fellow Application for the 2023-24 service year is NOW OPEN!For 11 months, beginning in September, over 100 Fellows will bring energy, commitment, and drive to supportcommunities tackle their climate and community resilience challenges while gaining professional experience. Afterlaunching our pilot cohorts in Colorado and Washington last year, we are excited to continue to serve those statesthis year, in addition to California. Our early deadline is April 7th and our priority deadline is May 12th.

  • IL Seasonal Tech - Vegetation Assessments (summer 2023), Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever (southern IL; due May 16)

    The Seasonal Technician – Vegetation Assessments will be responsible for conducting vegetation assessments at defined locations on rights-of-way in southern Illinois, completing assessment forms and entering data. This position will be responsible for accurate data collection and entry and take measures to ensure quality control. Assessments will be conducted from June 1 through August 15, 2023.

    This position may have the opportunity to assist other Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever staff in planning and conducting habitat management on private lands, coordination outreach events or attending chapter sponsored events. 

  • Postdoctoral Research Associate - Illinois Natural History Survey/PRI

    The Illinois Natural History Survey is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to explore and quantitatively assess existing fish length and age data to evaluate various approaches to fish stock assessment and identify/pursue data gaps to characterize reach-specific population demographics of recreational and commercially important sport fishes in Illinois and Mississippi rivers (e.g., Pool 26 of the Mississippi River, La Grange reach of the Illinois River). The results of this evaluation will guide ongoing sampling strategies to obtain an unbiased representative sample for any given sportfish species within a navigation pool and will provide information required for development and evaluation of harvest regulations. This project will be guaranteed for at least 2 years with possible extension for three additional years.  The position duties will require a balance of field sampling, laboratory science, data analysis, and writing.

  • Udall Undergraduate Scholarship

    The Udall Foundation awards scholarships to college sophomores and juniors for leadership, public service, and commitment to issues related to Native American nations or to the environment.

    In 2017, the Udall Foundation anticipates awarding 60 scholarships of up to $7,000 each.

    The Udall scholarship honors the legacies of Morris Udall and Stewart Udall, whose careers had a significant impact on Native American self-governance, health care, and the stewardship of public lands and natural resources.

  • Learn about applying to present at the IPRH Undergraduate Research Symposium

    The Mellon Group for Environmental Humanities at the Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities (IPRH) is planning a research symposium to take place on May 1st, 2020 centered around the environmental humanities. They are asking students in all disciplines related to the field to consider participating by presenting original research. This does include research conducted on behalf of a class. They will be holding information sessions for interested students on November 4th at 6pm, and November 7th at 5pm in Room 259 of the English Building, and they will have pizza.     The Field Coordinator (FC) is integral to the AmeriCorps field program’s goal of accomplishing challenging conservation projects, as well as providing training, education, coordination, and leadership to ensure a positive and safe experience for regional field program participants. The Field Coordinator must have the ability to assist in personnel management, maintain equipment, and coordinate or provide training in technical and personal development skills.
