  • A Day in the Life: University of Birmingham tours Siebel Center for Design

    Impressive. 

     That’s the first word that comes to mind when stepping inside the Siebel Center for Design

     Everything had a purpose. Every room had a meaning and every nook and cranny had something worth exploring, and that’s exactly what the members of the University of Birmingham delegation did on May 15. 

     With help from Emily Bear, the programs and experience manager at the center, visitors that day learned about just one aspect of life on the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign campus. 

     And from innovative technology to fighting robots, that one aspect revealed a multitude of possibilities available to the UIUC community.

    The Media Studio is a content creation and production space that consists of two workspaces: The larger space features a lighting grid, an 18’ by 18’ stage area, acoustic treatment, a green screen, and flexible equipment and furniture, while a smaller control room acts as a recording and editing suite.

    "The Royale," a painting that sits in the lobby of the Siebel Center, was created by Nikko Washington and was one of the many works of art members from the University of Birmingham were able to experience during their May 15 tour. The oil painting was specifically commissioned for Illinois Theatre's production of "The Royale" by Marco Ramirez.
