Champaign, Ill.— International Student and Scholar Services and University Housing are looking for recipe submissions for this year’s International Cook-Off.
Recipes must fall under the three designated categories for this year which are dumplings, rice, and chicken.
Anyone can submit a recipe representing their country or country of choice; however, University Dining chefs will only pick two per category to compete during the week of competition.
For example, during the final night of the competition last year, contestants competed against each other with recipes representing Peru and the United States.
To enter a recipe submission visit https://go.illinois.edu/cookoff2023. The deadline to register is Wednesday, Oct. 18.
Final contestants will be announced by Oct. 20.
The International Cook-Off returns this year with three categories and three days of competition during International Education Week (IEW).
The first night of competition is Monday, Nov. 6; the second night is Wednesday, Nov. 8; and the final night is Thursday, Nov. 9.
All three competition nights will be held from 5-7 p.m. at Table 1867 inside ISR.
Each night of the competition is a different category, and during those nights, contestants, which can include teams of up to three people, will prepare their recipes in the demonstration kitchen at Table 1867 under a designated time restraint.
Once time is up, dishes will be judged by three professional staff members from across campus and a winning team or country will be announced.
People not participating in the competition can still attend, but they will have to use a meal swipe to enter the facility.
The first 30 people in attendance will get a free sample of each dish.
