CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — The University of the West Indies in Mona, Jamaica (UWI), and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) will cohost an online roundtable discussion with researchers from both institutions on March 20.
This presentation will be live streamed via the UWI YouTube channel starting at 1 p.m. central time.
The discussion, which is the second part of an online symposium titled “Let the Research Speak,” will focus on epidemiology, health, and entomology and will feature researchers and physicians from both institutions looking at climate change and health impacts.
The March 20 presentation will feature:
- Prof. Celia Christie-Samuels, professor emerita of pediatrics at UWI and consultant pediatrician infectious diseases at University Hospital of the West Indies.
- Dr. Japhia Jayasingh-Ramkumar, clinical associate professor at Carle Illinois College of Medicine at UIUC.
- Prof. Paul Brown, professor of microbiology in the Department of Basic Medical Sciences, Biochemistry Section at UWI.
- Dr. Brenda Wilson, professor of microbiology and associate director of MCB Undergraduate Education in the Office of the Vice Chancellor, Research and Innovation at UIUC.
- Prof. Marcia Roye, director of the Office of Graduate Studies and Research at UWI.
- Dr. Brian Allen, associate director of academic affairs at the School of Integrative Biology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at UIUC.
- Dr. Milton Tan, assistant research scientist in Biodiversity Genomics at the Prairie Research Institute at UIUC.
- Prof. Reitumetse Obakeng Mabokela, associate chancellor and vice provost of global affairs and strategies at UIUC.
Dr. Holly Rosencranz, clinical assoicate professor at Carle Illinois College of Medicine at UIUC, will be moderating the event.
This symposium provides an opportunity for researchers at both institutions to showcase their work, areas of expertise and interest, and explore the potential for collaborating on projects in areas of mutual expertise and interests.
The first part of the online symposium took place on Feb. 21 and the focus of that discussion was climate and entomology.
