The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA) casts a wide net for inspiring athletes, alumni and fans across the state and the world as well. The university offers nearly two dozen men’s and women’s varsity sports, and the Fighting Illini have accumulated 25 national championships in the last century. Dedication to the development and success of student-athletes both on the field and off is key to Illini identity and pride. Illini is a member of the Big Ten conference.
Recreation remains a large part of campus life, supported by Campus Recreation, offering open and programed activities all year ‘round. Offering one of the country’s largest on-campus facilities with over 75 acres of playing fields, and over 25 fitness/wellness classes in multiple facilities. More than 40 club sports and intramural activities, offer flag football to martial arts to ultimate frisbee, for both men and women.
