Professor Lauren Aronson, Director of the Immigration Law Clinic at the College of Law, recently spoke on a panel about immigration reform. Aronson and other panelists made it clear that much can be done to improve the lives of immigrants at the state level. Thanks to the hard work of immigrant rights organizations, lllinois has become one of the most welcoming states for non-citizens and refugees. Despite the progress that has been made, challenges remain.
“If you apply for asylum, you might wait many years. I have one client who is almost five years waiting for his asylum interview, and that is not the longest,” Aronson said.
