Professor Robin Kar recently spoke to WCIA News following the release of a University of Illinois report on incidents of sexual misconduct allegations from 2017-2019. Kar is a member of the Academic Senate and led the committee that studied the data released by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
“One of the key findings in my committee is that the legal definition of sexual harassment is so hard to meet that a lot of things that you and I would think of as sexual harassment just aren’t getting caught in that system,” he said.
Kar said the committee is recommending broader definitions and progressive sanctions.
