Professor Jacob Sherkow has co-authored an article for the Earth BioGenome Project, titled "Ethical, legal, and social issues in the Earth BioGenome Project."
The Earth BioGenome Project: The Launch of a Moonshot for Biology Special Feature summarizes the current status of the Earth BioGenome Project (EBP), the largest and one of the most ambitious coordinated scientific efforts in the history of biology, aiming to sequence all known eukaryotic species in a 10-year timeframe. The authors of this special feature offer various perspectives to explore several important aspects of the project, including a review of progress, description of major scientific goals, exemplar projects, examination of ethical, legal, and social issues, and applications of biodiversity genomics, i.e., bioeconomy, conservation, drug discovery, adaptation to climate change, prevention of pandemics, and agriculture.
